From March 17th to April 24th, 2022, Art Sonje Center holds Seungcheol Ok’s solo exhibition, Create Outlines. The artist transforms his character images, which are based on digital figures that are modified and reproduced inside the screens that show cartoons, movies, and games, into various media such as paintings, videos, and sculptures. Through this process, Ok has continued to show that character images can serve as a platform to create artistic experiences. In this solo exhibition, the artist takes the command key used in Adobe Illustrator, “Create Outlines” as the title and shows stark contrasts on his long and short-haired characters in colors, black and white conversions, straight lines and curves, and planes and multi-dimensions. Using paintings, sculptures, and images of different sizes and purposes in an ever-changing digital information, Seungcheol Ok’s conceptual world visualizes and materializes on colorful materials and surfaces. Standing at the center of this process, Creative Outlines is where the digital world ends and the analog world begins.

아트선재센터는 2022년 3월 17일부터 4월 24일까지 옥승철 개인전 《크리에이트 아웃라인즈》를 개최한다. 옥승철은 만화, 영화, 게임 등 화면 내부에서 변조, 복제되는 디지털 이미지에 근간을 두고 구현한 그의 캐릭터 이미지를 회화, 영상, 조각 등 여러 매체로 변주하며 그것이 관람객에게 예술적 경험을 제공하는 플랫폼이 될 수 있음을 줄곧 증명해 왔다. 그는 《Un Original》, 《JPEG SUPPLY》에 이은 세 번째 개인전에서 어도비 일러스트레이터(Adobe Illustrator)의 명령어인 ‘Create Outlines’를 제목으로 삼고, 그의 장발, 단발 캐릭터의 컬러와 흑백, 직선과 곡선, 평면과 입체 등으로의 극단적 전이를 선보인다. 시시각각 변화하는 디지털 정보가 크기와 목적을 달리하는 회화, 조각, 영상 등으로 고정되어 가는 옥승철의 세계에서 개념은 디지털 공간에서 시각화되어 다채로운 물질과 표면에 현실화된다. 이러한 과정의 중심에 놓인 《크리에이트 아웃라인즈》는 디지털 세계의 종착점이자 아날로그 세계의 시발점이다.
