AHN Okhyun — KICHE

AHN Okhyun’s works are based on the complex aspects of human emotion looked upon in photographs and visual media. The artist actively intervenes and exposes the subject (person) to a specific situation planned and directed by her, thereby capturing the process of the emotion surfacing on the face of the subject with the camera. And she expands the artistic question through media of video which was chosen by her purposefully as one way to embody the narrative and the situation into the artwork.

AHN Okhyun(b.1970) graduated Hongik University(Seoul, Korea) with a M.F.A and the School of Visual Arts(New York, USA) with a M.F.A. She has held solo exhibitions at Art Space Eonju Round(2021, Seoul, Korea), Gallery Kiche(2019, Seoul, Korea), Lydmar Hotel (2015, Stockholm), Space 22 (2014, Seoul, Korea), Show Room Gallery (2013, New York), Kunstdok Gallery (2012, Seoul, Korea). She has staged and participated in various group exhibitions at KICHE (2022, Seoul) Boan1942(2020, Seoul), Total Museum(2019, Seoul, Korea), Koyang Kawanishi Gallery (2018, Tokyo, Japan), Aram Art Museum(2018, Goyang, Korea), Gwangju Biennale ACC (2018, Gwangju, Korea) and others.

안옥현 작가는 사진, 영상 매체에 기반해 인간 감정의 복합적인 측면을 살피는 작업을 지속해왔다. 작가는 대상에 적극 개입해 대상(인물)을 기획, 연출된 특정한 상황에 노출시키고, 이로써 대상의 감정이 표면화되는 과정을 카메라로 포착한다. 그리고 그에 대한 적극적인 수단의 하나로 선택된 영상을 통해 서사와 상황을 더욱 입체적으로 구현해 그런 작가적 질문을 확장한다.
